Welcome current art school students, graduates, self-taught professional artists, and art collectors.
My image is called 'Snowy Noel' and is of a girl who sits in the cold snow while thinking and reflecting about the life and journey that bestows her.
Stone Island was inspired by a hike through the Lake District (UK) and I found a still spot in one of the lakes where the water reflected the sky so perfectly it looked like the stones were floating.
I made this box to hold everything and nothing. It holds the whole universe, much of the time. It is very precisely one inch square. The lid closes half way down. As it opens, it reveals the bottom half, polished to a mirror shine and curved very carefully to always maintain a flush fit with the front edge of the lid. At about halfway open, it is stopped by tiny silver chains tied with thin silk thread. Don't open it any further, you might let the universe out.
This is my Modern Day Mandala. A Reliquary of Goldfinch Skulls. An Homage to my Feathered Friends who Impart Bits of Knowledge to me Each Morning, Silently, Over Coffee.
I entered Internal Alchemist, a painting I made for an Alchemy-themed show. While Alchemy is based somewhat in science and the pursuit of chemical changes, at its heart it is an allegory for bettering oneself - making oneself pure, like gold. I used some of the symbolic imagery found in alchemy to create a sort of internal alchemist who is focused on transforming into a perfectly pure being.
When creating my piece, Wind & Water, I was imaginging being hiking/out in nature and everything is so calm and peaceful. There are no interrupting city noises, you can hear the creek's water and see the sun's reflection glisten, and hear and feel the gentle wind blowing the tall grass. A great place for reflecting and energizing your soul.
"A Challenged Meditation" is a drawing which speaks about the importance of silent reflection in meditation. Once in silent reflection, we may be challenged by the fact that our mind is still "loud" (full of thoughts & emotions). This piece represents silent reflection and the challenges we may face to overcome 'distractions' to silent reflection.
"Snow and Trees" is a painting of a small wood near where I used to live in Scotland. When the snow falls it seems to absorb all sound and makes it really peaceful and quiet.
